I had the good fortune to taste Chateau Ste. Michelle and Dr. Loosen Eroica Riesling 2004 when a
family member, who is also a sommelier, brought it to a family function. He also brought a bottle
of Chateau Ste. Michelle White Riesling Ice Wine 2003 that Wine Spectator rated at 95 points. I really enjoy rieslings and ice wines, so in my opinion, this was a very special evening.
The Eroica label is the result of two great winemakers (Bob Bertheau of Chateau Ste. Michelle Estates and Ernst Loosen of Dr. Loosen Estates) coming together in a joint venture to produce an award winning wine. Eroica, which is named for Beethoven's Third Symphony, is an excellent example of what can be experienced by mixing both Old World and New World technique and philosophy...a lively, bold, sumptuous wine.
Subtle aromas of tangerine, green apple and minerals would be appropriate to describe the nose of Chateau Ste. Michelle and Dr. Loosen Eroica Riesling 2004. Very pleasant and intriguing. This is a forward wine with great character. It has a crisp, clean taste with overtones of green apple and apricot. It also has a somewhat dry finish that adds to its complexity. The alcohol content is 12.5% and residual sugar is 1.7g/100 ml.
The Eroica rieslings have consistently won awards. Food and Wine Magazine has named it the Best American Riesling $20+ for three consecutive years and it has been designated a Top 100 Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator for four consecutive years. The 2004 vintage is sure to follow suit. This wine would be a great choice to accompany a special meal or to just enjoy while relaxing.
