Louis Tete Beaujolais Nouveau 2004 has some of the qualities you might expect from a wine labeled
"Nouveau". The first thing that stands out about this wine is the color. If you could classify a wine as "pretty", this would be it. When you pour Beaujolais Nouveau 2004 you think of liquid rubies...crisp, shimmering, crimson. It is very clean, clear and refined.
The nose is reminiscent of strawberries, spice, and perhaps a hint of leather. Rather pleasant, but not particularly compelling. The aroma does not leave you eagerly anticipating your first sip...it's more of a curiosity. As the vapors assail your nostrils there is also a very faint sensation of the "heat" of alcohol (12%) not unlike that of peppermint.
The first impression on the palate is that of berries. Tart, crisp strawberries with a touch of cherry. A very light and refreshing wine with subtle flavors. It does not linger and has a short finish. Louis Tete Beaujolais Nouveau is a rather polished, youthful, wine that should be enjoyed while it is still young rather than allowing it to age.
