If I had to describe Hanna Bismark Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2000 in one word, I would
choose full-bodied. It is a wine with a big flavor and a long finish. There's nothing wimpy about this cab. Upon pouring, you notice its
rich, dark, ruby hue. A closer look reveals the depth of color extending
from the core almost to the rim. This is also a rather "leggy" wine which is representative of the 14.7% alcohol content.
The nose is reminiscent of black cherries, sage, and licorice. There is also perhaps a hint of leather. This bouquet is enticing and after breathing for a while the aromas "settle into each other" and become more subtle.
The experience on the palate is just what you would expect from its nose. There is definitely a burst of flavor! A fruity forward of cassis and plum with a lingering spicy black cherry and toasted oak finish. The tannins are perceptible, but beginning to mellow and there is a very slight astringent quality to it.
With my first sip, I was a little hesitant to say that this was a really good wine. But after letting it breathe, its character changed significantly and I found myself being more enthustiastic about it. I would not hesitate to say that with a few more years of cellaring, this would be an exceptional wine.
I find it interesting to note that I could find very little information about Hanna Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2000 online. This particular vintage is not even rated. Yet Hanna is a significant winery located in Santa Rosa, CA.
