Yellow Tail Pinot Grigio 2004

Yellow Tail Pinot Grigio is a "delicate" white wine from a very popular Australian Winery, Casella. Casella is one of the largest wineries in Australia and is located in the small village of Yenda. Their Yellow Tail brand has become a big hit in North America. According to The U.S. Wine Market: Impact Databank Review and Forecast it is the largest-selling imported wine in the United States and has increased sales by more than 3 million cases from 2002 to 2003.

One of the first things you might notice about this Yellow Tail Pinot Grigio is its clarity and very pale yellow color. The best descriptor that comes to mind is "straw". If you swirl the glass and examine the legs, you notice that it has very pronounced legs.

I would describe the aroma as citric; mostly grapefruit with undertones of green apple and pear. A bouquet that actually belies the taste, since this wine is very subtle on the palate.

On the tongue, my first impression is that of pineapple followed by lime and a mild acidity. It is a fruit forward wine with a lengthy, although soft finish. The alcohol content is 12.5%. Because Yellow Tail Pinot Grigio has a very delicate flavor, it would be a great match for fish or shrimp. At about $10.00 per bottle it is affordable enough to be added among your regulars.
